You know the Abraham Lincoln quote that says "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt"? Apparently Jason Bourne (a.k.a. "Matt Damon") isn't familiar with it.
Normally, I keep my thoughts and opinions to myself on matters of politics, religion, the superiority of the Utes over BYU, or any other issue that may be considered "hot-button". My belief is that a) it's not my place to try and persuade people with my opinion when they are very capable of forming their own opinions, and b) no one gives a damn what I think. That's probably why it bothers me when people like Jason Bourne ("Matt Damon") use their celebrity as a vehicle for pushing their political beliefs on the public. Take, for instance, the video above of Mr. Bourne ("Mr. Damon")spouting off at the mouth about what he thinks of Sen. McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin. If Mr. Bourne's ("Mr. Damon's") objective in his babblings was to raise questions about Sarah Palin's readiness to be Vice President, than he failed. The only questions I was left asking after watching this video were "Who asked you?", "Why the hell do you think anyone cares what YOU think?" and "Dinosaurs and book burnings? WTF?"
During Jason's (Matt's) diatribe against Sarah Palin, he touched on a few things that I thought were ironic, if not hypocritical. I'll start off with the comment that I found most aggravating:
The reason I find this particular comment to be so offensive is that when I think of things that are like "a really bad Disney movie" I generally tend to think of two things: "Titan AE" and "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron", two animated films that are both intrinsically "like a really bad Disney movie" and to which Jason (Matt) lent his talents. How dare he condemn anything for being like a bad Disney movie when he himself has been involved with numerous productions that are like really bad Disney movies! That bastard!
Next, was the comment

The rest of the video is pretty much a hate-filled sermon against small town folks and their "folksy" ways, some confusing babbling about Palin's stance on the dinosaurs and burning books and some other jargon about how McCain picked Palin for political purposes (no shit). It's too bad we can't all be from your world, Mr. Bourne (Mr. Damon). We folksy, small-towners can't make a living by letting people record us playing make-believe.
Maybe Sarah Palin isn't the best choice for a VP candidate, but I sure as hell don't need to hear it from Jason Bourne. I'll wait and see what Jack Bauer has to say about it before I make up my mind.
