That is a pretty good video. I bet that was the highlight of your life to be there.

Here is a little video that I think supplements that pretty well.

Joel,

A) You are now forbidden from commenting on my blog, and

B) The video seems vaguely familiar, almost as if it was a blatant ripoff of another video I've seen
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6CROOR2QN8).

Typical BYU fans, unoriginal, sore losers

Matt, I have to say, it was a typical BYU move. Having seen both, it was much better video when BYU did it. Kind of like your undefeated seasons vs. ours. You get a nice #2, while we get a banner for National Champions.

Actually, I really was hoping the AP vote would go Utah's way, and they could have been #1. And now that Collie is leaving early, my hope is lost for next years run. It doesn't help that we get to be next years redemption game for Oklahoma either.

Ben (or Kim),

One of the highlights of my day is reading your witty, fun-filled posts on our blog.
Another highlight is replying to your comments and correcting your misguided views about the world in which we live.
For example, you mentioned in your last comment that the video made by a BYU fan was a much better video. Unfortunately, you are incorrect. It was a low-quality imitation of the original work of art, much like a reprint of the Mona Lisa hanging in a small town public library.
Also, you brought up the default argument for BYU fans, the '84 National Championship*.

Allow me to contrast the differences between the '84 BYU season and the '08 Utes season:
1. '84 Cougars went undefeated with a regular season schedule crammed full of WAC teams, then beat a 6-5 (barely above .50) Michigan team for the National Championship. The Utes '08 team beat 4 top 25 teams during the regular season, then beat an Alabama team that was #1 for 5 weeks during the regular season. I'll let you decide which of the two seasons is more impressive.
2. No BCS in '84. By '84 standards, the Utes would now have 2 National Championships. And finally,
3. BYU sucks. The '84 National Championship banner is nothing more than a blanket that Cougar fans use to wrap themselves up at night while they suck their thumbs and cry about their disappointing football team. It's 24 years old now, has some holes in it and smells bad. Maybe it's time they get another one. Of course, that would require beating good football teams, so it's unlikely that will ever happen.

I hope this has crystallized for you the differences between BYU's National Championship* and Utah's perfect '08 season.

(*The '84 BYU National Championship is not officially recognized by the NCAA, or anyone other than BYU fans.)

silly, silly Matt. Now, i know you are a bit of a newbie to the national spotlight here, what with Utah being kind of BYU's kid brother the last few decades. but i will explain it to you nice and easy, kind of like how a BYU or UVU student would explain basic algebra or chemistry to a Utah student. It might be kind of long, so read a part of the reply, and then come back to it later if you need to.

So back in 1984, BYU beat the #3 ranked team in the season opener, on the road. That was after they finished 1983 as the #7 team in the country, at 11-1. This wasn't a team who hadn't been in the national spotlight before, ala, Utah in 2004. They then went on to beat up the WAC, which included Utah of course. Their next challenge came in a bowl game, against a Michigan team that had been ranked as high as #2 in the country, had beaten the #1 Miami Hurricanes in week 2 of the season. The same Michigan team that started off with promise, then a bunch of injuries and losses, only to get healthy at the end of the season and be in peak shape by the bowl game.

(I've intentionally avoided using big adjectives so this is easier for you to read, being a Utah fan and all. If you don't understand, I will gladly draw pictures though)

Keep in mind that the #4 ranked team in the country was invited to play BYU in the bowl game, but declined to make more money in a different game. So blame the Washington Huskies, BYU was willing to play them. They might have been a touch afraid, but you can't even blame them, who would want to play that team. They were so dominant.

So they finished #1 in the AP, USA Today/CNN, UPI, NFF, FWAA, and every other reputable, legitimate poll. There was no asterik, it is a legitimate National Championship.

Now, it may make you feel better to hear this, but I would have voted Utah #1 if I had a vote this year. I was glad to see them dominate the bowl game, against a very good team. They definitely had better regular season competition, than BYU did in 1984. Although, I think they might say thank you to BYU for that, as it has carried the majority of the conference from mediocrity in 1984, to where they are today. I don't think you can blame BYU that Utah was so pathetic in the 80's, but you might be able to blame us for your success since then. You see, excellence tends to rub off on those nearby after a while.

So a reasonable person might say this #2 ranking is as much a credit to BYU as Utah itself. Especially since their coach is a transplant, of the successful system BYU has had and Utah has been milking. So congrats to you and congrats to BYU for what a conservative estimate might put our responsibility to your success at roughly 84-85%.

and for the record, i am not spending all of my time doing this, and it is way too much time, because I spite, rather, in good fun.

If we have to pick sides here, I am picking Matts side. While I don't really care who wins between U and BYU, I'll rage anyone who disrespects my boy like that. Matts my boy.
